About the Role
We are seeking an organized and dynamic Program Manager to oversee all aspects of our Biotech Workforce Development program (‘Break into Biotech’). This multifaceted role requires a strategic thinker who can seamlessly manage recruitment, curriculum development, participant engagement and training, and partnership coordination while nurturing strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
The Program Manager will report to the Executive Director and will work closely with all other Genspace staff.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Outreach
Lead comprehensive recruitment efforts across multiple audiences including community partner organizations, teachers, and mentors
Develop and manage media and graphic assets for recruitment campaigns (newsletters, flyers, videos, presentation slides)
Manage the application review process from start to finish
Network with prospective employers to create pathways for program participants
Program Coordination & Participant Support
Mentor participants in the lab through project-based learning experiences
Provide ongoing support and professional development for participants
Communicate regularly with participants regarding professional development opportunities, networking events, skill-building workshops, and field trips
Conduct regular check-ins with participants to provide support and gather feedback
Track and maintain accurate records of participant hours
Mentor Management
Recruit, train, and support mentors to ensure high-quality guidance for participants
Facilitate meaningful mentor-participant relationships throughout the program
Curriculum & Instruction
Design and teach workshops for program participants
Prepare curricular materials including slides, readings, and supplementary resources
Recruit and coordinate contract instructors
Support instructor scheduling and management, including contacting instructors about teaching availability and coordinating instruction with training cohort schedules
Prepare and manage laboratory materials and supplies
Design and oversee research projects that advance program goals
Provide constructive feedback on participants' science communication and oral presentation skills
Event Planning & Programming
Organize and manage program orientation
Plan and execute the friends & family celebration event
Recruit and coordinate guest speakers, panel speakers, and professional development programming
Arrange field trips to relevant sites
Identify and create engagement opportunities for alumni and participants
Administrative & Operational Tasks
Administer pre- and post-program evaluation instruments to measure impact
Design, print, and manage program posters and visual materials
Maintain organized systems for tracking program operations and participant progress
Other position details
This is a 2yr, limited-term position ending on December 31, 2027 that is subject to renewal depending on funding availability.
Expected start date in January 2026.
Full time 40 hrs/week; some evening/weekend hours required.
The Program Manager is expected to work primarily onsite with some remote flexibility.
Salary range is $75,000- $85,000/year, commensurate with experience.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in science, education, or related field
3+ years of experience in program management, education, or community engagement
Experience teaching or facilitating learning experiences
Research experience in molecular biology or related field
Strong administrative, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills with impeccable attention to detail
Exceptional interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional demeanor and excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with recruitment and outreach to diverse communities
Proficiency with graphic design tools and media creation
Preferred:
Master's degree or PhD in STEM field
Background in STEM education or laboratory science
Experience with workforce development programming
Experience with mentor program management
Event planning and coordination experience
Experience with program evaluation and assessment
Experience teaching or facilitating learning experiences in an informal science environment
